Thoughts on Breakups

Breakups, man. They're tough.

A jab to the heart is like any other injury. It needs tender care, rehab, and time to recover.

It needs rest while it's fighting for restoration. And it won't happen all at once -- oh no, of course not. Each day will be a battle. But each day, it will become closer and closer, it will fight harder and harder, and it's great efforts will start to show results. Perhaps it will be patched, and that patch may fall off a couple times. There will be complications. But eventually, the treatments will start to work. And your body will heal your precious heart the way it heals any wound...with time. It will scab, and perhaps even scar....but it will become healthy once again.

Breakups are called break-ups for a reason. It's everything you've built together...crumbling down into a big heap of rubble. It's your heart, once so full and vibrant with the love for another, so excited to beat, beat, beat -- now sluggishly pumping blood out of a selfless act to keep all other organs intact.

But sometimes, certain things have to fall apart so better things can fall together.

It's important to find happiness in your life outside that person who used to make you smile until your cheeks hurt. Because it exists all around you in so many aspects of life. And those need to be celebrated. They brought you that same happiness before that one person came along. And they exist whether you're completely alone or in good company. Whether you're absolutely heartbroken....or head-over-heels in love. Life is full, even when you feel absolutely empty.

It's important to remember that a part of you is not missing. I know it feels like it. I know you may feel empty and strange and not yourself. But you were beautifully whole before him, and he did not take anything from you. It's important to remember this.

It's also important to remember the sun will keep rising every morning and the garden will still be in bloom tomorrow and the birds will keep chirping before you can even consider forcing yourself out of bed, and that bacon egg and cheese will still taste euphorically good.

Love will overcome pain -- every single time -- if only you can find it in yourself, and the wonderful people who surround you.

Allow yourself to feel all of the awful things you may feel. Anger, sadness, hatred, loneliness, desire, remorse. It's a loss, and just like anything else, it must be mourned.

But just like anything else, it too will pass. And you will love again.

Summer Festival Outfit Ideas

Hi loves!

One of my favourite things about summer is, of course, the music festivals. Nothing's better than close friends, great music, and cold drinks.

So in light of this trend, I put together for you a few outfits that epitomize the festival style.

This outfit was actually modeled after one I saw Miley Cyrus wearing last year. Crochet is definitely hot this summer, and I got this vintage top off of Etsy a while back. Paired with high waisted cut-offs and brown combat boots, this outfit radiates such an effortless feel. I topped things off with a messy topknot bun. Here is the inspiration for this outfit.

There is not one festival lookbook without flowers, am I right? The cropped floral top from Forever21 creates a vintage feel when styled with Steve Madden combats and high waisted shorts. You're sure to stay cool in this cropped cami, and the floral print would look wonderful with some flowers in your hair :)

For an edgier look, spice up some plain high-waisted shorts with a skull sweater tank. This used to be a sweater, but the sleeve fell weirdly on me, so I DIYed it into this little number. I kept accessories simple  but boho with a lacey headwrap and a gold armband.

Release your inner country girl with this lightweight red peasant top. Cropped tanks and high waisted shorts are clearly star-crossed lovers, and when paired together in an outfit as simple and laidback as this, who could deny them their matrimony?

If the weather is slightly colder than the normal "sun's out, buns out," then opt for a lightweight blouse like this one from Brandy Melville. Tied in the front with some -- you guessed it -- high waisted shorts, and you'll look like a summer babe without showing the extra skin. Some dreamcatcher earrings tie the look together, in conjunction with a messy bun.

I hope you guys enjoyed this mini lookbook! Let me know in the comments what your favourite Summer Festival outfit choices are!

With love,
Emma Madison

Shopaholics Guide: Online Shopping and My Secret Gems

Online shopping is a very controversial issue. You have the non-believers, which I used to oh-so-strongly be a part of, thanks to my mother's constant reminders that you can't see how anything fits. But then you have the believers, which welcomed me with open arms when I crossed over the fine line between loving and hating online shopping.

I will admit, online shopping and I have had our ups and downs. Sometimes, I would question our relationship and ask if it was really worth it in the end. The shipping prices were sometimes too much to handle, and we almost ended it multiple times.

But here we are. Look at us now. Happily oblivious to all outside forces trying to tear us apart. My wallet included.

You too can have a blissful relationship with online shopping. Check out the following stores and just wait for the bliss to sink in. Beware: Side effects may include crying, gasping, and/or maxing out your credit card.

Number 1: Nasty Gal

If you haven't already heard of Nasty Gal, I give props to you. There are ads on nearly every website you go to. Once giving in to Nasty Gal's attempted courtship, I must say my closet became very gracious. In my opinion, Nasty Gal's prices are pretty good. They have a lot of the same clothes you'd find in a high end boutique like LF, but for half the price. Plus, they offer free shipping on order over $75, which is pretty easy to get to with all their gawwwwgous clothes. And when I found out their returns are free....

It's beautiful when a store just gets you.

Number 2: Sabo Skirt

Like Nasty Gal, this Australian-based company replicates expensive looks and knocks down that price tag a few notches. Everything on Sabo Skirt makes me want to weep silently to myself because of how modestly wonderful it is. When you're perusing on the website, the excitement is almost overwhelming as you add item after item into your cart and everything is wonderful and there are birds chirping and the sun is shining and small children are laughing until suddenly you realize.....

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING IS $15!!

If you're not a cheapo like me, that probably doesn't scare you too much. Regardless, especially if you're an Aussie, check it out!

Number 3: Gojane

Where do I even start with Gojane...it's my ultimate love to put it simply. It's a bargainer's dream come true. The prices are out of this world. I have no words to describe this site. Ships in 48 hours, regular shipping as low as $6, free over $60...I go HAM on Gojane. Especially the crop top section. If you do nothing else with this blog post...check this site out PLEASE.

Number 4: MissGuided

MissGuided is a UK based company, but does have US/Canada/Australian versions of their site for international purchases. Amazing, Amazing, AMAZING clothes, and for reasonably low prices for what you're getting. The best part? They're having a special for 20% off all US orders in addition to free shipping on any order!! Crazy!! It ends at midnight on July 21st, so get your cute little tushies over there! I know I am ;)

Those are my 4 secret little gems for finding unique, high-end looking clothes for affordable prices. I hope you guys enjoyed this blog post, and if you have any secret gems, let me know in the comments below :)

Happy Shopping!

OOTD & Mini Haul: NYC trip

Hello there, lovebugs!

Today was my older sister's 20th birthday, to which we celebrated by spending the day shopping and perusing about in the city. Who wouldn't love that? (nobody)

The weather today was unfortunately not great, definitely not shorts-friendly. So I opted for some layers, as the city can be quite windy.

Top and Cardigan: Brandy Melville
Jeans: Hollister
Booties: H&M

My mom, my sister and I went to a wonderful little restaurant for lunch called the Corner Cafe. Next time you're in Soho, be sure to check it out! Adorable, delicious, and definitely worth returning for.

*excuse me while i salivate in reminiscence*

After a loooooong day of hitting the shops, I ended up getting only a few things (are we proud or are we proud?)

Both of these beautiful babies are from H&M. They're both high waisted; one is a gorgeous vibrant blue, the other a red wine colour.
And that tiny little bugger seen on the blue shorts is Benefit's Watt's Up? Highlighter

Definitely excited to try this. For those of you who have it, let me know what you think!
